Under the Bed
Emily is 12 years old.  On the eve of her first day at secondary school her world is torn apart by the seperation of her parents. Though she has often listened to her parents argue it has come as a sudden shock to her that she will no longer be allowed to live with her father.  Before she can even start to understand the reasons why, Emily finds herself, suitcase in hand, stood in a new bedroom, in a new house, in a new and unknown town.  Emily hates her mother for doing this, despite her best efforts to win back her affection, and cannot understand why her father has not yet come to rescue her.

Confining herself to her bedroom at night, Emily huddles under her sheets listening to the noises of the house and her mothers escalating arguments on the phone, until one evening a new noise pierces the air.  Scratching.  Scratching coming from under her bed.  Scratching followed by a low playful growl and the flick of a wiry tail.

Emily has a wolf living under her bed.  A wolf that loves wearing hats and playing with her toys.  A wolf that loves magic tricks and dancing.  A wolf that wants nothing more than for Emily to go on an adventure with her.  An adventure to a world far more colourful and exciting than the one she currently finds herself in.

Emily is left with a choice to make; stay where she is, listening to her mother cry and shout, stay in a strange house without her dad or follow the wolf to another world,  a world under the bed.

Play Synopsis
Its been a long road already just to get to this point for Under the Bed and now it looks like it will happen earlier than planned!  Originally scheduled to be made after Through Someone Else's Eyes the productions have been flipped so we can do some more R'n'D on the more technically complicated latter play.

The idea and rough script have been bumbling around for a while now, but it has only been recently that all of the collaborators have been identified and are available to start planning the production.

The results of the AC bid are (rather pessimistically at present with the state of arts funding) being waited upon, but in the meantime we will forge ahead regardless.

In mid-December this year we will get our first chance to try some ideas out in the rehearsal room - put some red lines through the script and add some new directions as the collaborators stamp their own identity on the work.

Though we are not announcing the collaborative team until more concrete plans are in place I can say that the production will bring together some amazing talent including a musician, physical theatre performer, film maker, designer/artist and actress.

A decision has already been made that the set will only consist of a bed which leads us to our first and probably most important question:
How do you get a bed to transform into another world?  Or rather what is the most magical way a bed can become another world?

Hopefully by the end of this adventure we will be able to show you.
